A match made in heaven for sheep's cheese, the Seggiano baked fig ball is a traditional and ingenious way of preserving the juicy Dottato variety of figs that are unique to the Cosenza region where it is crafted.
The figs are picked from the tree when they are well matured, dried and slowly cooked in their own juices, before being shaped into balls, wrapped in green fig leaves and slow baked.
The slow baking brings out the rich, caramel flavours of the fig; making it the perfect pairing for sheep's cheese, ricotta and, if you're feeling adventurous, ice cream.
