St Austell Brewery – Mena Dhu Stout 4.5%
Founded almost 175 years ago, St Austell Brewery remains 100% independent and family owned and is known to be one of the oldest businesses in Cornwall. Mena Dhu is brewed using an original Cornish recipe, named after the black hill on the farm that was owned by the brewery’s founder, Walter Hicks. This deceptively light and refreshing stout boasts flavours of liquorice and dark chocolate, making it the perfect pairing for roasted meats and vegetables.
Bristol Beer Factory – Milk Stout 4.6%
Bristol Beer Factory have been brewing for just over 15 years in a vibrant part of South Bristol in an old fermenting block that was built over 110 years ago. From brewing to bottling, everything is done in house, with the house yeast being propagated every three months to maintain a healthy strain for them to crop and re-use again and again. Milk Stout has a smooth chocolatey sweetness and a balancing coffee bitterness with hints of dark fruits. This beautifully creamy beer pairs perfectly with beef pie, BBQ pork ribs and chocolate truffles.
Quantock Brewery – Quantock Stout 4.5%
Set up in 2007 in Somerset by head brewer Rob Rainey, Quantock Brewery produce ales brewed entirely from the highest quality grain and whole hop cones, with the only other ingredients being yeast and water. The microbrewery produces over 2,300 pints a brew, up to 5 times a week (compared to globalised brands, such as Fosters brew over 2.2million pints a day). Quantock Stout is distinctively dark and dry, with aromas of citrus & liquorice. The flavours of liquorice, chocolate and coffee are the perfect match to fruity desserts such as blackberry and apple crumble.
Hunters Brewery – Black Jack 6%
Run by father and son duo, Will and Paul, Hunter’s Brewery have been crafting top quality ales in the heart of the Devon’s countryside for nearly 25 years. Black Jack is a light stout with a palate of rich liquorish and coffee, creating a bittersweet finish; making it a great match to ruby red beef!
